Aircraft Accident History

1. 8Q-TMC Collision with seawall: The accident occurred due to collision of the left hand side float with the seawall on take-off run.

2. Accident to 8Q-TMA: The aircraft, operated by Trans Maldivian Airways was maneuvering on the water near the Floating Platform, after landing in the lagoon near Holiday Island resort, when it struck another Twin Otter (8Q-TMH) that was parked against the floating platform. There were no passengers on either aircraft.

3. Accident to 8Q-HIF: The eyewitness stated that the aircraft was on a smooth approach but immediately on landing it sprung back and on the second touch it rolled over on the nose. The investigation team found that the aircraft had landed in water with the landing gear down.

Damage to Aircraft: The aircraft, engine and propellers sustained substantial damage due to immersion in salt water.
4. Accident to MIL helicopter Mi-8P (LZ-CAK): The helicopter, two minutes after take off from Rangali Helipad, lost its left engine.

5. Accident to Bell 212 helicopter (8Q-MAY): Soon after the helicopter took off witnesses report that it turned and headed back toward the helipad in a descent with a nose-down attitude. It then descended more rapidly and disappeared into the ocean nose-down attitude. It then descended more rapidly and disapeared into the ocean.

6. Accident to MIL Mi-8P helicopter (LZ-CAC): The accident occurred at take-off at about a height of 50m when the helicopter lost its control due to non-availability of hydraulic pressure. The loss of hydraulic pressure was due to the pilots taking off without activating the primary hydraulic system and the accidental switching off of the secondary in their attempt to switch on the primary in flight.

7. Dornier 228 aircraft (9M-PEQ) accident occurred during the landing roll: when the aircraft abruptly turned right, left the runway; struck the sea-wall and somersaulted into the adjacent lagoon and floated belly up.

8. Cessna Caravan aircraft (8Q-MAT) possibly rendered the right hand side water rudder unserviceable due to the loading on the water rudder on take-off from Male- in strong cross wind.
